What to do on Valentine’s Day…

A date with a difference…

For over 1,000 years Borough Market has been uniting Londoners with a rich palette of produce.

This Tuesday, enjoy Valentine’s Day with your loved one and wander over to this market for a date with a difference.

Alight at London Bridge tube station and head towards the art deco gates. Enjoy mooching (and maybe some smooching) between the food stalls, tasting a variety of mature cheddars and juicy olives and even pick up an aphrodisiac and chocolatey treat for later in the night.

If you’re in an indulgent mood, head over to Wright Brothers and take a pew at their long oyster bar.

For something more substantial, take a leaf out of the Italian’s book, and enjoy a sensational pasta dish at Padella near the Market Hall.

Once you’ve satisfied your sweet tooth, leave Borough Market via Bedale Street and catch a glimpse of Southwark Cathedral, the oldest cathedral church building in London, which is beautifully lit at night.

Carry on past the cathedral and veer left. Soon you will come upon a replica of the Golden Hinde, the ship Sir Francis Drake used to circumnavigate the globe.

Set sail towards the river for a beautiful view along the Thames at dusk.

Cut back along Clink Street to enjoy a romantic stroll along Embankment with St. Paul’s visible across the river.

Pass beneath Southwark Bridge and carry on along towards Shakespeare’s Globe. Enjoy an intoxicating nightcap at The Swan next to this Elizabethan playhouse.

If you’re not quite ready to call it a night, saunter further down the Southbank to the OXO Tower. The 8th floor does have a bar and restaurant but instead take advantage of the free viewing gallery for panoramic views of the capital with your loved one as the stunning centrepiece.

Please note:

* Borough Market offers a limited market on Tuesdays: not all of the stalls and shops are open but there is still plenty on offer. Wright Brothers is open from 12pm – 10pm. Padella is open between 12-4pm, and 5-10pm.

* The Swan at Shakespeare’s Globe closes at 11:30pm.

* The Oxo Tower Restaurant, Bar & Brasserie closes at 11pm on Tuesdays.
